The beach is a 30 second walk from the pousada. I walked out to the water and watched as the sun sank over hills in the distance. I think I’m right near the harbor entrance – you can see all the fishing boats anchored in the water and the colorful village building from the shoreline. (Pics to follow).
Finding the town in the dark was a bit challenging, given the lack of details on my “map” and the fact that I was on my own. Crossed the harbor a good six times before finally guessing that the ‘street’ I was looking for was actually a stairwell. More confusion once on the main road - pretty sure I walked into the area of town my driver recommended avoiding – but eventually got my bearings and found a decent place to eat. Nothing extraordinary, but I should note that I passed my waiter on the road to the beach today and he recognized me – it’s a very small town. Walk home was cake except for the last turn when I got accosted by a gang of five-year olds yielding flip flops. I held my own, barely.
